Boston University: Using Grove Online Grove Online is based on three print publications, The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2001). the New Grove Dictionary of Opera (1992), and the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz (2002). These are searchable and regularly updated. This "most excellent" guide will get you started.

    CANTUS: A Database for Latin Ecclesiastical Chant "CANTUS is a database intended to assist scholars in their study of the chants of the Office. It is made up of indices of the chants in sources of the liturgical Office. It uses as models two older kinds of indices--those published in various facsimile editions of sources (for example, Paléographie musicale), and those presented by Dom René-Jean Hesbert in Corpus Antiphonalium Officii [hence CAO]."     Historic American Sheet Music Project "The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University holds a significant collection of 19th and early 20th century American sheet music. The Historic American Sheet Music Project provides access to digital images of 3042 pieces from the collection, published in the United States between 1850 and 1920." The Timeline is especially useful in seeing the music in its broader cultural context.

    Performing Arts Encyclopedia (Library of Congress) "The Performing Arts Encyclopedia serves as a guide to the collections and resources at the Library of Congress that pertain to music, theater, and dance.     Göttinger Bach-Katalog: The Sources of J.S. Bach's Works The Göttinger Bach-Katalog comprises two primary sections, *Works* and *Sources,* and two 'combined catalogues' called *From Works to Sources* and *From Sources to Works*. *Works* provides a complete index of all compositions by J. S. Bach based on the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (BWV) by Wolfgang Schmieder. *Sources* provides access to all compositions of J. S. Bach, including those that exist and those that definitively have disappeared. The following sources are provided: 1) autograph manuscripts by J. S. Bach containing his own works, 2) copies of Bach's compositions which were made before 1850, and 3) first editions, made under Bach's supervision.

    The Database of Mozart Sources (NEUE MOZART-AUSGABE Mozart-Quellendatenbank) "Since December 1995 ... the editorial board of the Neue Mozart–Ausgabe has worked to establish a database in which all of the documented autographs of Mozart and the most important non-autograph and printed sources of his works (first and early editions to ca. 1800, likewise libretti) will be catalogued."
