Collective Bargaining Agreements File Dept. of Labor This site has full text of collective bargaining agreements covering 1000+ employees (except railroads and airlines which are covered by the National Mediation Board). Companies and organizations submit contracts voluntarily, so there is no guarantee of finding a contract for a given company or that the most recent contract is on the site.

LABOR CONTRACTS DATABASE University of California - Berkeley "This is the only database serving as a one-stop public on-line clearinghouse for cataloged and digitized complete text of union contracts." Contracts are listed here by state, union name, and occupation. PDF versions of contracts are available for free.
National Compensation Survey BLS This site provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) links to data from the National Compensation Survey (NCS) which "provides comprehensive measures of occupational earnings; compensation cost trends, benefit incidence, and detailed plan provisions. Detailed occupational earnings are available for metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, broad geographic regions, and on a national basis. The index component of the NCS (ECI) measures changes in labor costs. Average hourly employer cost for employee compensation is presented in the ECEC." This includes the latest numbers on percent changes in compensation for civilian workers, private industry workers, and state/local government workers. At this page you can either link to BLS created tables of Employment Cost Index statistics or use forms to create tables using criteria of your choice.
Source Book on Collective Bargaining: Wages, Benefits, and Other Contract Issues This reference book available at EMU's Halle Library offers detailed current information related to collective bargaining. (Link leads to table of contents for most recent ed.) For the coming year it lists major contract expirations by industry, a calendar of wage negotiations, trends in employer bargaining objectives and other labor trends, and an economic outlook for the coming year. There are also reviews of recent developments in labor, court cases & legislation related to collective bargaining, and reprints of major studies/reports. Also includes historical statistics on prices, productivity, and union membership.

BenefitNews.com This site offers full text of articles from Employee Benefit News, links to benefits related sites (listed under Tools), and a SourceBook directory of insurance providers and other HR services. Topics covered include health plans, dental/vision, retirement, supplemental, quality of life, compliance, etc.

Tips: Browsing the Hot Topics listed under subject sections (Channels) could be helpful when looking for paper topics. You may run into a few browser error messages as there are some technical problems with this site.

Employee Benefit Research Institute EBRI This nonprofit organization does research and education on employee benefit issues. Many research reports are available for free on the EBRI site. EBRI does annual surveys: The Retirement Confidence Survey and the Health Confidence Survey. The Fundamentals of Employee Benefit Programs offers an educational primer on employee benefits. Over 400 tables of statistical data are available in the EBRI Databook on Employee Benefits. There are also reports on many benefits issues such as retirement plans, Social Security, health insurance trends, health costs for retirees, and other benefit issues. The EBRI site also offers an extensive set of links to other sources of benefits information.
Employee Benefits Security Administration EBSA EBSA missions include:
  • Assist plan officials to understand the requirements of the relevant statutes in order to meet their legal responsibilities
  • Develop policies and regulations that encourage the growth of employment-based benefits
  • Deter and correct violations of the relevant statutes through strong administrative, civil and criminal enforcement efforts to ensure workers receive promised benefits

Medical Expenditure Panel Survey MEPS "The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) is a set of large-scale surveys of families and individuals, their medical providers, and employers across the United States. MEPS is the most complete source of data on the cost and use of health care and health insurance coverage." -- "The Insurance Component (IC) collects data from a sample of private and public sector employers on the health insurance plans they offer their employees. The survey is also known as the Health Insurance Cost Study. "
National Business Group on Health "The National Business Group on Health, representing 250 mostly large employers, is the nation’s only non-profit organization devoted exclusively to finding innovative and forward-thinking solutions to large employers’ most important health care and related benefits issues. The Business Group identifies and shares best practices in health benefits, disability, health and productivity, related paid time off and work/life balance issues."
There are some free reports and press releases; but many reports are for members only.
National Center for Employee Ownership NCEO NCEO "is a private, nonprofit membership and research organization that serves as the leading source of accurate, unbiased information on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), equity compensation plans such as stock options, and ownership culture." Many free articles and statistics at this site.

Collegiate Employment Research Institute Michigan State University "The Institute is involved in research projects across a wide range of topics that focus on education and employment, specifically for the college educated segment of the labor force." The site offers executive summaries of the report, Recruiting Trends, "an annual survey of national employers seeking their intentions for hiring new college graduates. This study provides a snapshot of factors influencing the college labor market, as well as in-depth examination of key issues in college recruiting."
Great Place to Work Institute "The Great Place to Work Institute, Inc. is a research and management consultancy based in the U.S. with International Affiliate offices throughout the world." Site offers best practices, articles on how to build trust in the workplace, and a database of data from various "Best Company to Work For" lists. It can take some "poking around" to find the articles which can be found in more than one place on the web site.
W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research Site has working papers, research reports, and book chapters on topics related to employment and unemployment such as: disability & workers' compensation, economic development and local labor markets, family labor issues, unemployment insurance, Welfare-to-Work, work arrangements, workforce quality and training.
